About
Potted History: My Story in a Nutshell
It seems as if I was born with a sense of wonder and curiosity. As a child my quest began by asking questions of those around me, wanting to understand the deeper how’s and why’s. These questions have led me down several career paths in life and each one has afforded me a deeper understanding of myself, the world and what it means to be human.
My Dental Career
My career began as a dental therapist and after winning the award for the Best Clinical Dentistry student in my class, I embarked on a successful 15-year career. Through my patient interactions and those around me, I observed and learned a great deal about others, their motivations, their needs and their stories. Out of this my interests evolved to focus on inspiring others as I transitioned into a practice management role and began developing my coaching skills.
Leading a team of sixteen incredible people was deeply rewarding but it wasn’t always easy. Figuring out the motivations and struggles of each team member took time, patience and sometimes mistakes. Over time we were all able to step outside of our comfort zones, the key to each one’s individual success and therefore the success of the practice.
A Change of Direction
Later, I entered into studies as a Life and Professional Coach. Beginning my own business, I began coaching dentists, professionals and business owners for the next few years. In time my circumstances changed, and I moved to San Diego, CA to live and work. It was here that I came to realise my childhood dream of becoming an artist (the very thing I was told as a child was unrealistic!). I’m very proud to say that my artworks have showcased in exhibitions and events in NYC, Miami, California, Italy, Monaco and Paris.
Whilst there, I kept hearing about Expressive Art and wondered what it meant. As it turns out it was a perfect fit for me because it allowed me to combine my love of art, personal development and coaching in new ways. After completing the internationally accredited course I graduated to become a qualified Expressive Arts Practitioner.
Chaos and Upheaval
A couple of years later, I was afforded the opportunity to become joint founder of a successful health centred business. My life looked successful and on track. Then Boom! Life traumatically upended my world. My sense of safety and security was decimated on every level. I felt alone and afraid. Returning to Australia I began the often-painful process of redefining who I was, what was most important to me, and what I would do next.
Unfailingly, life’s most challenging events have a way of pushing us right to the heart of things. To re-examine beliefs and viewpoints against a new backdrop, and to embrace the uncertainty that arises. Seasons of chaos and upheaval are often the only precursor in realigning once more with what is authentic and most meaningful. In 2018 I decided to return to supporting others and obtained an international certification as a Social and Emotional Intelligence Coach (S+EI). Most recently, I qualified as a Change Practitioner with Prosci, an Australian government endorsed program.
What I Believe Today
Today I am a better coach, simply because I am a better person. Life’s experiences have taught me much about resilience, compassion, forgiveness, gratefulness and the power of purpose. When I am not coaching or reading personal development books you will find me spending time with friends, creating a new painting, or having fun engaging in the never-ending challenges of the squash court.
